About Nexus

Nexus is Star Media Group Berhad’s rewards hub. When you engage with content across our participating platforms, you earn points that you can use to unlock rewards.

You can earn points across participating SMG digital platforms, including:

  • The Star (web & mobile app)
  • mStar (web & mobile app)
  • Kuali (web)

Nexus is open to everyone. You may earn points while browsing, but we recommend logging in to keep your points and redeem rewards.

Browse and participate in eligible activities on participating platforms (e.g., reading, check-ins, selected interactions). Points are recorded based on the eligible activity rules. Logging in is recommended for a smoother experience.

You can still earn points while browsing on participating platforms, but logging in is recommended to keep your points and redeem rewards.

Yes. Nexus is a standalone hub, so you’ll be asked to log in when you access Nexus.

Log in options depend on the platform you use:

  • The Star, mStar & Kuali: MyStar SSO (Email/Password) or supported social logins (e.g., Google/Facebook/Apple)
  • Newsstand users: Enter your email to receive an authentication code to log in

This usually happens when different email addresses or different login methods are used across platforms. For the smoothest experience, use the same email address when registering/logging in across participating platforms.

At this stage, point balances cannot be merged across different login identities. Please use one consistent login moving forward.

Issues usually arise from using an incorrect password or email address, or choosing the wrong social login method.

To resolve this, please attempt to reset your password or verify the social media account used during registration.

You can earn points through:

  • Recurring activities (e.g., reading, sharing, daily check-ins)
  • One-time activities (e.g., newsletter sign-up, first-time app login)
  • Subscription-related actions (for eligible plans)

From time to time, Nexus may also host special events with bonus-point opportunities. Please visit Nexus at nexus.thestar.com.my to check out Ways To Earn Points for detailed information.

Recurring activities are rewarded with points repeatedly. One-time activities are typically rewarded once per account.

To keep things fair, recurring activities are subject to a daily points cap of 50 points per platform. One-time activities and subscription-related points are generally not part of the recurring daily cap.

Reading points are awarded when eligible activity conditions are met (for example, you may need to scroll through part of an article). Also note that reading the same article repeatedly may not earn additional points.

No. Points are awarded only when the activity can be verified online.

Yes. Active paying subscribers on eligible The Star subscriptions may receive double points for selected activities on The Star platform.

Important: Subscriber bonus points apply when you are logged in while performing eligible activities.

Points are awarded based on your subscription package period and amount paid as outlined below.

Points awarded for subscriptions to The Star ePaper or print via Newsstand:

  • RM1 – RM40 - 10 points
  • RM41 – RM100 - 50 points
  • RM101 – RM200: 100 Points
  • RM201 – RM600: 150 Points
  • RM601 – RM1000: 500 Points

Points awarded for subscription to The Star Digital Access:

  • Weekly Plan: 5 Points
  • Monthly Plan: 10 Points
  • 6-Month Plan: 50 Points
  • Yearly Plan: 100 Points

Note: Corporate, institutional, or complimentary plans are generally not eligible for purchase-based points, though users can still earn points through daily actions.

For Digital Access purchases via Newsstand, points are awarded upon activation of your subscription. You may activate your Digital Access code here: www.thestar.com.my/subscribe/redeemcode.

The Star Digital Bundle consists of two separate products, The Star Digital Access and The Star ePaper. You must first activate your Digital Access subscription by using the code provided to you to receive an additional 100 points.

Subscription-related points are awarded after successful payment confirmation or subscription code activation for purchases made on Newsstand.

Your point balance is displayed at the top right of our participating platforms and mobile apps. To ensure your points are accurately tracked and recorded, we recommend that you stay logged in while engaging with our platforms.

Alternatively, you may log in directly to the Nexus at nexus.thestar.com.my to view your total points and check your available spins.

Yes, as points are tied to your email, when you delete your account, you lose your points too.

According to our Terms and Conditions, paid subscriptions are generally non-refundable. In the rare instance that a refund is issued, any points awarded for that subscription will be forfeited.

We might adjust or remove points if they are deemed invalid. This includes points gained from rule breaches such as fraud, exploiting system loops, or duplicating activities. For example, if you repeat the same activity both logged in and logged out, the duplicate action is automatically limited to 1 point upon login. These changes are final and can’t be reversed.

Spin the Wheel is where you use points to spin and unlock rewards. Each spin deducts points from your balance. Every spin guarantees a reward, and what you receive depends on your spin result.

Rewards may include a mix of benefits such as vouchers, discounts, bonus points, or bonus spins. Reward options may vary from time to time.

There are at least 6 rewards available on the wheel at any time. Rewards shown may change periodically.

Each spin costs a fixed number of points, which is shown on the Spin the Wheel page before you spin.

Yes. You may get the same reward more than once, depending on the spin result and reward availability.

Rewards are subject to availability. If a reward is no longer available, it may be replaced with another reward.

No. Once a spin is completed, the result is final. Points used for spins are not refundable and not recoverable, and rewards cannot be exchanged or substituted.

Yes. Nexus may suspend accounts and/or forfeit points or rewards in cases of suspected fraud, abuse, prohibited activity (e.g., bots, scripts, multiple accounts), or breaches of the Terms & Conditions. Any forfeited points or rewards are not refundable and not recoverable.

All rewards you unlock are stored in My Rewards, along with reward details, redemption instructions, and an expiry date (if applicable).

Yes. Rewards / vouchers have an expiry date and cannot be used after expiry.

No. Rewards are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or other credit. Rewards are issued as-is and are not refundable and not recoverable.

Please check the expiry date and redemption instructions shown in My Rewards. If the issue persists, please contact the merchant’s customer support.

If your spin was successfully processed, points will be deducted, and the reward will appear in My Rewards. Please check My Rewards and Points History first. Completed spins and deducted points are not refundable and not recoverable.

Voucher codes should be kept confidential. Codes that are shared, compromised, misused, or redeemed by another person are not refundable, not recoverable and will not be replaced. If you believe your account was accessed without permission, reset your password immediately and contact customer service.

Rewards / vouchers cannot be used after their expiry date. Expired rewards are not refundable and not recoverable, and they cannot be reinstated or extended. Please redeem rewards before the expiry date shown in My Rewards.

Points expire to keep the programme active and fair:

  • Logged-in users: Points earned within a calendar quarter expire 30 days after that quarter ends (e.g., points earned Jan–Mar expire on 30 April).
  • Anonymous users: Unclaimed points are purged on a weekly basis (e.g., points earned from Mon-Sun expire on the following Monday at 12:00 AM).

We added a point-expiry reminder in Nexus for your convenience. Please refer to it if needed.

No. Points have no cash value and cannot be sold, assigned, or transferred.

No. Expired points are not recoverable. Points earned without logging in are stored temporarily and may expire or be cleared according to programme rules. To avoid losing points, please log in and use the same email address consistently across participating portals.

Points earned without logging in are not tied to your identity. If someone else logs in on the same shared device/browser, we can’t verify ownership or reassign those points. They are not refundable and not recoverable. Log in before earning points, especially on shared/public devices.

Points expiry is automated and applies to all users to keep the programme fair. Expired points are not refundable and not recoverable, and exceptions cannot be granted. Please check the expiry reminder in Nexus regularly and redeem your points before they expire.

Non-subscribers can read a limited number of free articles per month. You may use the free trial vouchers or discount vouchers to subscribe. When you subscribe, you earn subscription points too.

Spins require points. When you spin the wheel, the required points are automatically deducted.

Yes. You can view the wheel, but you’ll need enough points to spin.

Points are awarded only when eligible activity conditions are met and verified; unverified activity is not eligible for manual credit. Some Points may take some time to update. Try refreshing the page/app and ensure you’re logged in. If it still doesn’t update, contact support at customerservice@thestar.com.my with the platform name and time of activity.

To maintain a safe community, we strictly prohibit:

  • Creating multiple accounts.
  • Using bots, scripts, or automated engagement systems.
  • Manipulating system vulnerabilities.
