Introduction & Acceptance
- Nexus (“Nexus”) is a reward hub and an engagement programme operated by Star Media Group Berhad (Company No.: 197101000523 (10894-D))(“SMG”).
- Nexus is a rewards hub for users to redeem vouchers from the points collected by them when performing daily activities, transactions and/or purchases at participating digital portals under SMG group. For details of participating digital portals under SMG group, please visit nexus.thestar.com.my (collectively, “Portals”).
- Eligible users who make a successful subscription and/or registration for any of the Portals with effect from 20 May 2026 will automatically be registered for Nexus. No separate registration is required for Nexus, and users shall use the same login credential provided during their purchase of and/or registration for the Portals when using Nexus.
- Browsing of and/or use of Nexus constitutes full and unconditional acceptance of these terms and conditions.
- SMG reserves the right to amend, suspend or terminate Nexus, including its mechanics, rewards or eligibility criteria, at any time without prior notice. For the avoidance of doubt, amendments, suspension or termination by SMG of Nexus shall not entitle any user to any claim or compensation against SMG for any and all losses or damage suffered or incurred as a direct or indirect result of the act of amendments, suspension or termination.
Eligibility
- Nexus is available to users of the Portals who are residing in Malaysia and are eighteen (18) years and above.
- SMG reserves the right to disqualify any user that SMG knows, or has reasonable grounds to believe that he/she is ineligible for Nexus as a result of the terms and conditions contained herein.
- Certain features provided in Nexus may be accessible to anonymous users; however, redemption of rewards may require account verification or authentication. SMG reserves the right to request validation prior to issuing any reward.
- Employees of SMG and its subsidiaries are not eligible to redeem Nexus rewards.
Login to Nexus
- Portal-Specific Login Requirements
Access to the Nexus is contingent upon successful authentication through the user’s selected Portals. Each Portal utilises different authentication methods as follows:
- MyStar (The Star, mStar and Kuali): Users may log in via Single Sign-On (SSO) using their registered email address and password, or through third-party authentication providers, namely: Google, Facebook or Apple.
- Newsstand: Access is granted via a password less authentication system. Users must provide a valid email address to request a One-Time Password (OTP). Access will only be granted upon successful entry of the OTP sent to the user’s registered email.
- Account Integrity
Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their login credentials. Any activity occurring under a user’s account shall be deemed the responsibility of the account holder.
- Data Consistency
To ensure points and rewards are accurately tracked across Nexus, users are encouraged to use the same email address/identity provider across different portals where applicable. SMG is not responsible for fragmented reward balances resulting from the use of multiple different login identities.
Earning Points
- SMG reserves the right to impose daily or activity-based earning caps and points allocation. Users may earn points through qualifying activities/transactions as determined by SMG from time to time.
- Points are earned through "Recurring Actions", "One-Time Actions" and “Event Actions” across participating Portals and are subject to the terms and conditions of the on-going campaigns organised by the respective Portals.
- Points are also earned through subscription at Newsstand (newsstand.thestar.com.my), The Star (thestar.com.my) or The Star Malaysia Application upon successful payment.
- The table below indicates the points awarded for subscription at Newsstand. Users who subscribe to The Star newspaper/ePaper through Newsstand must log in using their registered subscription email to sync their points.

- Points earned in Nexus:
- do not have cash or monetary value, and are not convertible into cash;
- are not legal tender;
- are non-transferable to any third party and; and
- cannot be sold, assigned or traded.
- Points exist solely for use within Nexus.
- SMG is not responsible for any loss of points if users did not log in to redeem points or used the wrong email to collect points. No correspondence will be entertained.
- Suspected or actual fraud and/or suspected or actual abuse relating to the accumulation of points in Nexus may result in forfeiture of accumulated points without compensation to users, as well as cancellation of users’ registration with Nexus.
Spin the Wheel
- “Spin the Wheel” activity requires a specified number of points depending on the campaigns organised by SMG from time to time. Users are advised to view the latest mechanic and the updated terms and conditions for “Spin the Wheel” prior to the activity.
- Each spin results in a system‑generated outcome.
- Reward allocation is subject to availability and system‑determined mechanics.
- SMG is not responsible for technical failures, intervention, interruptions and/or electronic or human error in the administration and/or processing of this “Spin the Wheel” activity.
Rewards
- The rewards offered and points required to redeem the rewards under the Nexus Rewards Catalogue (nexus.thestar.com.my/rewards) published are only valid for the period as stated in the Nexus Rewards Catalogue or such other period as notified by SMG.
- All rewards featured in the Nexus Rewards Catalogue may differ from the actual products in terms of color or design details and the users shall accept the products with these discrepancies.
- Rewards are available on a limited and while stock last basis. SMG may substitute a reward with any item of a similar monetary value. SMG may also remove, discontinue and/or replace any or all of the rewards anytime without prior notice.
- Rewards may include vouchers, promotional benefits or other incentives as determined by SMG.
- SMG reserves the right to vary, substitute, modify or withdraw any reward type, value or quantity at its discretion without prior notice.
- Users can view the redeemed rewards in ‘My Reward’ section in Nexus.
- Rewards redeemed are non-transferable and have no cash alternative. Rewards redeemed cannot be exchanged for other products and/or services, and the same cannot be returned under any circumstances.
- Rewards must be used before the expiry date and are subject to terms and conditions contained as determined by the respective merchants. If the rewards are not used before the expiry date, they will be useless. Expired rewards will not be replaced and SMG will also not replace lost or stolen rewards.
- Any disputes arising under the terms and conditions of the rewards must be resolved directly between the users and the merchants without recourse to SMG and SMG will not be involved.
- SMG expressly excludes all representations, warranties or endorsements, express or implied, written or oral, including but not limited to any warranty of quality, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose in respect of the rewards.
- Rewards are intended for personal and non-commercial use only. Any resale, commercial exploitation or unauthorised distribution is strictly prohibited.
- SMG reserves the right to void any reward obtained through fraud, misuse or breach of any of these terms and conditions.
Expiry of Points
- Points are valid for the period determined by SMG and will expire after such validity period.
- Authenticated users: Points expire at the end of each calendar quarter.

- Anonymous users: Points expire every Monday at 12:00 AM.
- Authenticated users: Points expire at the end of each calendar quarter.
- Expired points will not be reinstated.
Fraud, Abuse & Disqualification
- The following acts are strictly prohibited:
- Creation of multiple accounts;
- Use of bots, scripts or automated systems;
- Manipulation of system vulnerabilities;
- Artificial inflation of engagement activity; and
- Misuse of rewards.
- SMG reserves the right to investigate suspicious activity and reserves the right to disqualify any user and forfeit the accumulated points at its sole discretion.
- SMG may suspend or terminate participation and/or forfeit accumulated points and rewards without prior notice where abuse is detected.
Nexus Availability
- SMG does not guarantee uninterrupted or continuous availability of Nexus.
- Nexus may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, system upgrades, technical issues, or circumstances beyond SMG’s reasonable control. SMG is not responsible for technical failures, intervention, interruptions and/or electronic or human error in the administration and/or processing of Nexus and/or the determination of the users’ eligibility and/or entitlement for the points.
- SMG shall not be held liable for any loss of points, missed participation opportunities, or inability to access Nexus due to such technical failure, intervention or interruption in the administration and/or processing of Nexus.
Exclusion of Liability & Indemnity
- To the fullest extent permitted by law, SMG shall not be held liable to the users for any loss or injury or any special, direct, indirect, incidental, exemplary or consequential loss, penalty, damage, costs and expenses (including but not limited to legal costs) which may be incurred or suffered by users and/or third parties as a result of or arising directly or indirectly in connection with Nexus and/or the use of rewards redeemed bu Nexus points.
- The users agree to indemnify and hold SMG harmless against any claim by any third party and against any loss, damage, cost or expense (including solicitors' fees and costs) suffered by SMG in connection with Nexus.
Privacy of Personal Information
- By browsing and/or using Nexus, users agree and consent to processing of their personal data by SMG in accordance with SMG’s privacy policy stated herein (nexus.thestar.com.my/privacy-policy).
Governing Law & Amendments
- These terms and conditions shall be construed in accordance with and governed by the law of Malaysia. Users agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Malaysian courts.
- SMG reserves the right at its absolute discretion to amend, delete or add to any of these terms and conditions from time to time without prior notice.
- These terms and conditions, as the same may be amended from time to time, shall prevail over any provisions or representations contained in any other promotional materials or advertisements in relation to Nexus.
- SMG’s failure to enforce any of these terms and conditions does not constitute a waiver of SMG’s rights.
